“Soy Milk” is the first EP by Simmcat, aka Simona Catalani, an artist from Rome now living in Milan. Totally self-produced – from the writing process to the artwork, and the recording as well – the album runs across the emotions of a sentimental relationship. Who didn’t feel absolutely happy and then totally melancholic? We’ve all been there. It wasn’t meant to be a romantic EP, and yet it cannot not be.

In Simmcat’s world, Simona’s sound and visual expressions blend together with a consistent result: her whispered, almost shy voice and the soft melodies flow to the pastel tones and the sweetness of her artworks. Evoking Frankie Cosmos’ echoes – to whom Simmcat has been compared many times – “Soy Milk” is the perfect album to listen to while driving under spring drizzle, smiling and dying of homesickness.

“Soy Milk” è l’EP di debutto di Simmcat, aka Simona Catalani, artista romana ma milanese d’adozione. Totalmente autoprodotto – dalla scrittura all’artwork, passando per la registrazione – l’album ripercorre gli stati emozionali di una relazione. Chi non ha sperimentato l’assoluta felicità e la malinconia più spietata? Chi non ci è passato? Non voleva essere un EP romantico, eppure non può non esserlo.

Nel progetto Simmcat, l’espressione sonora e quella visiva di Simona si fondono e si compenetrano in un risultato estremamente coerente: la voce sussurrata, quasi timida, e le melodie delicate confluiscono nei colori pastello e nella dolcezza dei soggetti dei suoi artwork.
Con echi alla Frankie Cosmos – a cui Simmcat è stata paragonata più volte – “Soy Milk” è l’album da ascoltare guidando sotto una pioggerellina primaverile, sorridendo e morendo di nostalgia.
